The NCMS provides funding for UK students wishing to complete a research MPhil here at Cambridge. Funding is provided by Colleges, the Isaac Newton Trust and the University. Around 60 students will be funded in all disciplines across the University.

The scheme aims to fund high quality Home students with a strong research focus who wish to complete an MPhil degree prior to undertaking a PhD. The scheme is administered alongside the Cambridge Home Scholarship Scheme (CHSS). The awards are for one year at the rate of £12,000 which will cover payment of fees and a maintenance stipend.

Eligibility

  • You must have applied for admission by the relevant funding deadline.
  • You must intend to continue to a PhD at Cambridge.
  • Applicants must be registered as liable to pay the University Composition Fee at the "Home" rate.
  • Full-time and part-time students are eligible
  • Any subject area is eligible.

Application Process

There is no application form for this funding; as long as you have applied for admission/continuation by the relevent funding deadline for your course, indicating that you wish to be considered, then you will automatically be considered for this competition. Successful applicants will be matched to available funding.

Other Information

If you are awarded other funding, this will be taken into account and your award may be reduced accordingly.

The scheme does not provide additional funding for research expenses, transferable skills training or fieldwork costs.
