Exams occur throughout the year, Monday to Saturday, and the University recognises that the exam timetable might clash with religious observance that may restrict work. The timetable completion ensures sufficient time for marking and grading. As such, it is not possible to change the exam period in order to accommodate the full diversity of religious practices.

Where possible, the University wants to minimise clashes, but it cannot be guaranteed they will not occur. If this does happen, it might be possible to make alternative arrangements via your College. If the scheduled exam period might coincide with a religious observance that restricts work, then you should inform your College as early as possible.

How do I apply?

Applications for religious observance will be considered under University Policy for clashes that usually occur over a restricted period (e.g. Eid ul Fitr, Shavuot, Shivaratri, Vaisakhi). Applications will not be considered where observance extends over a significant number of days (e.g. Pesach, Ramadan, Eid al-Adha), where it is normally expected that daily activities (including exams) will continue as normal; nor will it consider applications for amendment to the exam timetable to enable a student to make a holy visit.

Further information about the application process and applicable deadlines is available to current students and can be found on the Student Exams SharePoint Site

The Examination Access and Mitigation Committee (EAMC) takes seriously the requirements of UK Equality legislation and the University's policies in this area. The EAMC, in considering applications, is to balance the merits of the case with ensuring that no student gains an unfair advantage over others taking the same course.
