How many Awards are available?
There are approximately 75 Awards available for PhD and MPhil students.
I am currently a PhD student at Cambridge. Can I apply for a CHSS Award?
No, current PhD students are not eligible to apply for a CHSS award.
If I have applied for CHSS funding before, may I apply again?
If you have applied for a CHSS award before, and had to withdraw your application for admission, then you may re-apply. You are not eligible to apply if you have already started your PhD.
How will my CHSS application be assessed?
Your CHSS application will be assessed by your department in competition with other applicants. Departments will nominate the top candidates for CHSS awards at the University level. The University's CHSS selection panel makes the final decision.
Each application is judged on its own merits. The assessment is based on the entire application, including the information and evidence provided about your ability, aptitude, commitment and preparedness for postgraduate study, and the quality of work you will produce.
How will I know if I have been successful?
Not all students will be nominated by their department to the Competition. Students who are nominated will be contacted by the Student Registry if they are successful during April and May.
When will my financial tracker be updated?
The Admissions Office will be advised of all successful CHSS awards and we will update your financial tracker during May/June. Any subsequent awards made to reserve candidates will be updated as and when awards are accepted.
