A non-medical intermission is an authorised break from study for such things as parental leave, family emergencies and internships or placements.
Postgraduate students who find themselves unable to study for more than two weeks due to a medical condition should apply for a period of medical intermission.
Please note that applications submitted after your submission deadline will be declined.
Doctoral, MSc and MLitt students please note that applications received any earlier than 3-6 months before the thesis submission deadline will be declined and you will be asked to reapply at the appropriate time.
Applications should only be submitted if you know that you need additional time and not 'just in case' you do.
If you are unable to study for more than two weeks due to a medical condition, you should apply for a period of medical intermission; this is a complete break from study for health reasons.
You should discuss this with your supervisor and department and possibly also your College Tutor, before submitting your application.
You apply for leave to work away via your CamSIS self-service. For general information on how to apply for a change in your student status see ‘Applying for a change in your student status’. Please check the "reasons for working away" section below before applying to ensure you are eligible.
If you wish to apply for a change in course registration within the same faculty or department (e.g. from MPhil to PhD) you can apply to do so by submitting a change of course application. If you wish to change to a course in a different department, you will need to apply for a change of department.
