Students taking Certificate/Diploma courses are not eligible for these benefits when attending a University/College outside the US.

The amount received from the VA depends upon entitlement; the amount the VA pays the institution depends upon eligibility (there is a cap when attending a foreign school – see below) and is generally split across the 3 terms.

The VA sets a maximum amount (each year) that they pay for students attending foreign schools. For 2026/2027 the cap is $30,908.34. Visit 2026 - 2027 Benefit Rates for more information.

The University of Cambridge will need to confirm your enrolment before your benefits will be released.

Our office will require the following information from yourself to enable us to process your request:

  • Certificate of Eligibility for Veteran Affairs Funding
  • Copy of letter/email of your confirmation of admission to our University
  • The VA requires that institutions agree to providing their office with access to academic and financial school records for those students taking VA benefits. You will need to confirm that you agree to the VA being provided with access to your academic and financial school records should it be requested.
  • Your full SSN. Please send this to us in a password-protected document and send us the password in a separate email.

Please note that even if there is a delay in receiving your Veteran Affairs Funding, this will not impact your ability to enrol in the University. Each of the Colleges are aware of how the VA benefits work and that the receipt of these funds do not always align with tuition fee payment schedules.

Please contact StudentLoans@admin.cam.ac.uk quoting 'VA Benefits' in the subject line of your e-mail if you are applying for VA benefits or have any questions.
